Life on the Saint John River
Living on the Saint John River in Florida has a lot of perks. You can relax on a bench, view the stars in the sky from a hot tub, jet ski around the river, host a party on the banks, see alligators and more. One thing I did not expect to see were DEA speed boats zooming down the river.
Mission of the DEA
As stated on Their website, the Mission of the DEA is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the United States; and to recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing the availability of illicit controlled substances on the domestic and international markets.
Flow of Drugs between Jacksonville and Orlando!
To this end the DEA is subject to conduct training in the most unlikely places, for me it was the Saint John River. Drug runs occur all over the world. So it should be no surprise that drug dealers are always trying to find ways to run drugs.
On a hot night one summer, with the moon shining, and while enjoying the hot tub, there was the sound of engines from fast speed boats. What we saw was a drug run test from the DEA. For a couple of hours, the DEA speed boats ran the Saint John River, chasing a smaller speed boat; the drug dealers.
The next day we happen to see the DEA speed boats docked at the marina.
